When the twins asked me to make a “Minions Cake” last year for their birthday, I was a little intimidated. But thinking about the shape of a Minion I realized it wouldn’t be so hard afterall. No need to be a Cake Boss to make this one! Follow these steps to make an
EASY MINIONS CAKE
Bake a regular cake in a 9X13 pan (check out my doctored chocolate box cake mix, it’s always a hit!)
When the cake is cool, cut off the top corners of the cake to make a round “head”.
Then the rest is frosting! I like to use Wilton food coloring in regular store bought white icing. This food coloring will give you a rich color without thinning the icing.
Since I mentioned before, I’m no Duff- My icing tends to be a little “bumpy”. I use colored sugar to sort of “mask” my unsteady hand. And the kids love it too!
Black piping or decorator gel is perfect for the details- little hair on top, crooked mouth and outline of eyes/goggles.
Finally, I love these “critter” eyes for cakes. Take a Double Stuffed Oreo (look for a coupon of course!) and pop the top. Then push the pointed end of a chocolate chip into the cream center. Voila- adorable eyes! (These would be great on a Sesame Street character cake too!)
I also made a few of my Minion Cupcakes to go with the cake. It wasn’t gourmet- but my kids LOVED it and that’s what counts!
