It’s time for the Thursday Repurpose post. Each month I bring you a great idea for repurposing items that would have been headed to the trash or recycling bin. There are so many items in our homes that we can reuse and repurpose (instead of sending to the land fill)
As my Father-in-law says “if you use something twice, it costs half as much”>>>tweet this!
Over the next month or so, I will be going on two road trips with my family with a total of 44 hours in the car (ok that sounds like torture when I put it that way). Sure we could watch videos all the way and my kids would be peachy keen with it. But back in the day, we didn’t have videos in our cars! My family drove out west several times and I remember playing games all the way.
So I wanted to come up with some fun new car ride games for the kiddos. I saw a pin on Pinterest about using a cookie sheet and magnetic items for travel games. Perfect! I was all set to go buy some of the supplies to do this when I glanced up at the side of my fridge and “light on”, I had a great idea! Instead of buying magnets, I would repurpose some old promotional magnets. You know they pass them out at festivals, parades and fairs. Usually I end up just pitching them, but why not repurpose them instead!
First off I spray painted several of them white so I could write on them for the games: hangman, tick-tack-toe, and license plate spotting (my fave activity as a kiddo). Then I drew on the game pieces with a Sharpie: body parts, underscore lines, letters, state abbreviations, etc onto the magnets for the games.
Some I just cut into squares to hot glue on the back of a puzzle we already had.
