So you’ve seen all those Facebook videos claiming some hack that will change your life. And then you try it out and it’s a bust! (might even make things even worse!) One that I just had to know about was the shredded chicken hack. You may have seen it- a crock pot, a mixer and boom chicken shredded in seconds. I just had to know.
So Does the Shredded Chicken Hack Really Work?

YES IT DOES! Finally a life hack that really does save time (and sanity). Here are a few tips:
- If you are just using this chicken for an ingredient for other recipes (like chicken soup, chicken potpie, chicken alfredo…) be sure to cook it in chicken broth, this make it tender and flavorful.
- Using a crockpot really does help it be a time saver too. Drop it in and about 3-4 hours later come back!
- This works for recipes too. The would be perfect that infamous Ohio Shredded Chicken Sandwich recipe.
- I have seen some videos saying you need a stand mixer… nope, just a regular old hand mixer works perfectly!
I just used my small stand mixer and it shredded great! Will be doing it this way from here on out! My chicken was still warm, I wasn’t sure if it would work as well if it was cold.

did you drain your chicken first?
I usually do not. If I have added more broth (like if I know I am using it in a specific recipe) then I might skim off some of the “juices”. But usually no, it actually all just incorporates back into the shredded chicken as you go (if that makes sense).

It’s great for recipes like pot pie and chicken noodle soup. All those comfort food faves. And my sister in law makes a Buffalo Chicken Dip that is crazy good. Calls for canned chicken, but she uses fresh shredded chicken and makes it even better!
