(UPDATE- In late 2019, Kroger changed ClickList to just Kroger Pickup)
By now I am sure you have heard of several retailers offering online grocery pick up service. Kroger has also joined in with their ClickList (Now Called “Pickup”) service. These services all offer convenience on a routine task. But I believe Kroger Pickup offers more than just convenience to help you save time and money. First of all let’s see how it works.
How to Place an Order with Kroger Pickup
- Visit Kroger.com, sign in and start your order
- Build a cart, select a pick up time/location and place an online order
- Next, an associate carefully chooses your items, then stores them in the proper temperature zones until you arrive for pick up
- You drive up to a convenient pick up area and receive the order without leaving the car

Tips for Placing Your Kroger Pickup Order
The process is really quite simple, just load up your cart! But here are a couple of tips to mention.
Know the Sale – All items will be priced at whatever the sale price is when picking up your order. So just be sure you know where you are in the sale dates. Items that are on sale from the Kroger ad will be noted on Pickup with a “yellow” sale tag. This also includes Mega Sale items! YAY! The only thing is that Mega Sale items do not have another notation that they are participating items. When ordering on a desktop, you will now find Mega Sale items are now noted. YAS! Also long as you buy the right amount of items, you will receive the per item discount for the Mega event items. AND now the Mega Sale Events are “Buy 5 OR MORE and Save $1 each). SO as long as you buy the minimum amount, all additional items will be discounted. See more details on the Kroger Mega Sale Change here.
Make Notes on Meat and Produce– You can add specific instructions to every item you select. I don’t think this is really necessary for all categories, but great for meat and produce. For example, when ordering bananas, you can specify green bananas only. Or if ordering deli meat, you can specify half pound of turkey thinly sliced. This would also be good for substitutions. So if you want a beef roast, but don’t really care what kind of cut, you could make a note that a certain cut could be substituted.
What Sets Kroger Pickup Apart
COUPONS! -This is the number one selling point for using Kroger grocery pickup in my opinion. The fact that yes you can use coupons with Kroger Pickup is a big deal (and something other services don’t offer). I always say the #1 way to save money on groceries is by using a coupon on a sale item. On my purchase I was able to use newspaper insert manufactures coupons, printable coupons and Kroger customer appreciation mailer coupons (including one of those $5 off $50 coupons). Simply hand the associate your coupons and they will take them in to apply them to your order. When they come back, you pay and are on your way! (or if you connect a card to your account you can even skip the pay at the car process).
You Will Get a Register Receipt – (This is a close second on my fave things about Kroger Pickup). You may be thinking what’s the big deal on getting a receipt. Other services actually do not provide an actual register receipt… so that means you can’t take advantage of grocery rebate app offers. BUT, since Kroger Pickup gives you a printed register receipt (looks just like as if you went through the checkout in store) you can stack up the savings! In addition to those coupons, you will be able to submit for the offers in your favorite rebate apps like Ibotta! YAY!
ANOTHER UPDATE- Now on Ibotta, you can connect your Kroger Plus Card… so no more scanning receipts! Just be sure to load all your Ibotta offers before shopping and then hit redeem after you pick up. If you haven’t joined Ibotta yet, do it today! So worth it! $$ JOIN IBOTTA HERE.
Connected Kroger Plus Account – Having your Kroger Plus card connected to your Pickup order is great for two reasons. First, it allows you to fill your cart faster. Kroger will show you recommended items based on your favorites and recent purchases. It’s kind of interesting to see what’s in your “favorites” list (yep, there’s my mommy treat Diet Dr. Pepper! LOL!). Also, having your Plus card connect means you will receive the sale prices (including Mega Sale discounts!) and earn fuel points for your purchase. AND of course digital coupons! Any applicable Kroger digital coupons will be discounted from your order automatically.
Exclusive Pickup User Digital Offers – In addition to the regular Kroger digital coupons (like Free Friday offers, 25 Merry Days and all the rest of the Kroger.com digital coupons) Pickup users will occasionally receive exclusive digital offers via email. The email will open to a special landing page where you can download high-value discounts in specific items on your ClickList order. For instance, recently they offered a “Free Oreo Truffle Kit”. Users were able to download digital offers for FREE Kraft Philadelphia Cream Cheese, Oreo Cookies and a bar Bakers Chocolate (a $8.50 value!). LOVE that!
NEW! Same Day Pickup! – Starting in 2017, Kroger Pickup is offering same day pick up on your orders! You just need to give them 4 hrs (and depends on if slots are open as well). This is another game-changer, IMO. So if you are making your dinner plans in the morning and realize you are missing a few ingredients- just place your order! And boom, pick up and dinner prep is saved!
I am so excited about what a game-changer this service is. “See” for yourself in the following Facebook LIVE videos: The first shows behind the scenes and announces the same day service (please note, giveaway has ended). The second video shows real time how a pick up works.
