Mary Poppins Returns is Practically Perfect in Every Way! The wait is over, Mary is back! Disney brought back this beloved 1964 character to movie screens on December 18. 2018- only like Disney can! In a nostalgic, classic Disney musical that pays beautiful tribute to the original while holding its own with a new cast and story.
If you have kiddos, I suggest watching Mary Poppins before going. (Included with Prime for members) I think they may appreciate some of the connections and clever writing a little better after seeing the original. So when you say, the “bowl scenes are kind of like the Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious animated scenes” or the lamplighters are the new chimneysweeps- they will have a little idea of what you are talking about.

Overall, this is the BEST of the “returns” movies Disney has done in a very long time. I laughed, I cried, I smiled, I cried, I tapped my foot and wanted to sing along. Everything Disney musicals are meant to be- and everything Mary is meant to be.
AND the short trailer for live action Lion King played before this screening- I had chills! If Mary Poppins Returns is any indication, Simba’s return will be magnificent too! (coming Jul 19, 2019)
And don’t forget to check out my recipe for Spoonful of Sugar Cake pops. maybe make up a batch to “sneak in” the theatre. Shh, if Mary can pull a boat out of her bag- you can pull a few sweets out during the show! 😉
