Follow these simple Kroger Mega Sale Tips and you will be on your way to saving more for your grocery budget!
Having a successful savings trip at the grocery store does take some strategy. And this is definitely true when you are dealing with a special promotion like the Kroger Mega Sale. A Kroger Mega Sale event usually stipulates you buy a certain amount of items and then will receive savings on those items at the register. So for instance, Buy 5 items, Get $5 off at the register. This means each items will be $1 off when you buy the 5. Sounds like a lot to keep track of… But don’t get overwhelmed!
Kroger Mega Sale Shopping Tips
1. Make Your Kroger List
Making a list is always a good idea when you shop (even not during a Mega Event). I tend to do it the old fashioned way- by hand. I look thru the ad and write down my must-buys for the trip. This will help me when I need to pull coupons.
Be sure to check the Mission to Save coupon database for coupons to pair up for even more savings!
I have also used the Kroger app to create a list, this way I can see if there are digital coupons to pair too.
2. Organize Your Coupons
I like to pull my Mega Sale coupons and separate them from coupons I might be using on non-Mega Sale items. This is another way to make a “list” (and honestly how I usually make my lists). I basically just shop thru my coupons. One section of my coupon envelope has the coupons I want to use. When I find the items, I place them in a separate section to tell myself I found that item. This way when I get to the register, I have a pile of only the coupons for the items I bought.
Also, don’t forget to check for the Grocery Rebate offers that might stack with those Mega Sale items too. Stacking up the savings!

3. Track Your Cart
GOOD NEWS! Starting on 3/18/2020, the Mega Event Sale discount policy has changed. Now you will only have to count the first 5 (or whatever # depending on the sale) and any additional participating item will count! So no more counting multiple Mega Sale “bundles”. See the details on the Kroger Mega Event Change here.
This is one of the hardest parts for me… Keeping track of the “count”. Especially with kiddos tagging along, it can be very hard to keep track in your head of how many Mega Sale items you have purchased. Because you will have to buy the correct amount, it is very important to track this. And yes, most Mega Sale events are unlimited. So if it’s buy 5, get $5- you could buy 10 sets (50 items) and get $50 off. So here is my little trick to keep track. I use my reusable shopping bags. I place several bags in my cart and fill them with mega sale items. When I get to the correct number of items for the savings, I fold down the top so I know that “set” is complete. Then I start filling up the next bag. (You’re welcome! 😉 )
4. Double Check Your Receipt
Finally, once you are done with your trip be sure to go back and check your receipt to be sure you got the right amount. Maybe you pulled an item that wasn’t really a participating product or sometimes the register missed one. Mega Sale items will be noted on the receipt with a <+. Then if you received the $ off, it will be listed as well, “Mega Event Savings”. If you find a <+ without the $ off listed under it, then you may not have bought the right amount of items. Some stores will allow you to come back and buy the right amount of items to get to the full count, and give you the savings. (Oh and this should go without saying- you must scan your Kroger Plus card to get the Mega Event savings. )
This is also the time to double-check the Grocery Apps too (Like Ibotta, Shrink etc…). Submit those rebates now!- or you may forget (and lose the savings!)
Those are my simple tips for having a successful Kroger Mega Event shopping trip. Do you have any to add? I’d love to hear them!
