Green Columbus is again teaming up with lead sponsor The Columbus Foundation for this year’s Columbus Earth Day event. This year’s event will feature a full week of service opportunities and a celebration. From Saturday, April 19 through Saturday April 26, Central Ohioans are invited to volunteer a couple of hours of time at hundreds of worksites across the region; and on April 26, there will be a celebration of Earth Day at Columbus Commons.
Volunteering is fun and easy. There are spots for every skill set and age – from planting trees, to cleaning alongside river banks, to creating and maintaining gardens, to generally making Central Ohio cleaner and greener. Volunteers will receive tasty thank you coupons from Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, Max & Erma’s and Chipotle. See all the service and celebration activities listed here.
Here are some of the opportunities that are listed as “kid friendly” service projects:
Habitat Restoration and River Clean-up at the Grange Insurance Audubon Center
Highbanks Metro Park
Indian Village Outdoor Education Center
Sharon Woods Metro Park
Street & Alley Clean-up: Clintonville
And on Saturday, April 26 from 11 am to 10 pm, a celebration to commemorate Earth Day will be held at Columbus Commons, in the heart of the city. The celebration will feature Mayor Coleman’s annual Earth Day address, live bands, food trucks, green businesses, kids’ activities, and much more.
