Let me first admit… I have a slight virtual crush on Jon Acuff (hubs calls him my internet BF). Ever since we saw him post this picture online- I’ve been hooked (hubs and I still cry about that one, “nailed it”). And you just have to check out his website Stuff Christians Like (more humor mixed with truth). But beyond his humor (which is perfectly dry, clever and on point)- he also has a way to use that witty wisdom to inspire! His newest book, Do Over stays on this track and doesn’t disappoint.

Another confession, when Family Christian asked me to review this book, I was mostly excited just because it’s Acuff! 😉 But when I first got the book, I thought oops- doesn’t really apply to me. Why do I, a SAHM/WAHM need to think about a “do over” for my “career”. I can’t really “do over” being a mom (and wouldn’t want to anyway) Yes the book is mainly directed at the topic of career paths, however there are so many truths contained for anyone who has a “job”- (hint- that’s ALL of us).
Acuff uses a tool he calls the Career Savings Account to change the way you think about your “career”. By focusing your thoughts on your skills, relationships, character and hustle- Acuff empowers the readers (through his unique mix of wit and wisdom) to call a “do over” on their career path. For all you Type-A peeps out there, you are going to love the note making assignments. And for those of us not-so-type-A, Acuff does a great job encouraging us that these “assignments” will take this theory from pages in a book to a real life change agent.
Here are some of my fave quotes from the book. From them you can see that Do Over really can transcend and transform many experiences in your life:
On the topic of skills: The goal of repeating something the best way, in the right way, is so that you can do it without thinking. The more you can turn an important skill into a repeatable habit, the more you can trust the power of autopilot.
On the topic of hustle: I believe you are capable of far more than you think… we tend to woefully underestimate our own capabilities… hustle is not just something we add to our Career Savings Account. It is something that multiplies everything else we have in it. … “Hustle” is simply shorthand for “work hard”.
Tie them altogether: Relationships get you the first gig. Skills get you the second. Character prepares you for any outcome. Hustle allows you to make the most out of the whole process.
Right now you can pre-order Do Over by Jon Acuff on Family Christian for $19.97 (discounted price) and you should receive the book on or around the release date of April 1, 2015.

Yes, I am ready for a do-over. The store where I worked for the last 5 years burned last month and it doesn’t look like the owner will rebuild anytime soon. I can get unemployment but I am not used to not working.

I love Jon Acuff and his honesty about his queso addiction, I too have that struggle. I own Stuff Christians Like in paperback form, I have Start on my Kindle app and, I preordered Do Over back in December! I am also a member of 30 Days of Hustle on Facebook since January 2014. Jon is amazing and I’d love to meet him, Jenny, L.E. and McRae one day. (I’m not a stalker I swear! Lol)
