As you all probably have heard Target stores were hit with a massive breach from 11/27-12/15. Credit and debit card information of as many as 40 million customers was compromised during this period. In an attempt to appease their customers and gain back their trust, Target will be issuing an apology offer this weekend. In a Target press release from CEO Gregg Steinhafel,
We take this crime seriously. It was a crime against Target, our team members, and most importantly, our guests. We’re in this together, and in that spirit, we are extending a 10% discount – the same amount our team members receive – to guests who shop in U.S. stores on Dec. 21 and 22*. Again, we recognize this issue has been confusing and disruptive during an already busy holiday season. We want to emphasize that the issue has been addressed and let guests know they can shop with confidence at their local Target stores.
I believe this discount will work in conjunction with REDCard 5% off discount and most coupons. It may not work with category or total purchase coupons (like $5/$25 off clothes or $10/$100 total purchase) I did shop in store during that time frame. While I have not seen any suspicious activity, we decided to take the safest route and just cancel my bank debit card and have another reissued. I spoke with my brother about this because his “wifey” is a loyal Target shopper. I wanted to warn them, but he said they have no worries. They only shop in cash and gift cards bought at Kroger. Certainly sounds like a brilliant option (for many reasons!). What are your thoughts on this entire situation? Are you going to take advantage of the 10%. If so check out the Full Target Matchups (see dated tabs for deals ending today or starting tomorrow) *Valid in store only. Limit one offer per guest to be used in a single transaction. Void if prohibited by law. Not valid in Canada. No cash value.
