There has been a lot of hype around “nuts” from the great state of Ohio this last week. (Congrats to the Ohio State Buckeyes for their National Championship Win!). But I want to introduce you to another Ohio nut- In A Nutshell! This mother daughter team is a true homegrown gem.
Mother and daughter, Barb and Beth, were out walking one day and stopped to appreciate the sweet acorns along the path. That handful of nuts turned into a beautifully creative business that gives tribute to nature and a reminder of earth’s smallest wonders.
Aside from the fact that these Acorn creations are just downright adorable, there is something else I love about them. That’s right, they are “homegrown”! Another wonderful Ohio based business! Most of the acorns used by In A Nutshell are “harvested” from Jeffrey Woods, a 35-acre woodland in Bexley, Ohio.
Acorn tops for In A Nutshell are lovingly gathered from the forest floor and the acorn seeds are left behind for animals to eat or to reseed. The tops are carefully chosen for their color, size, durability and overall physical character. No two are ever alike. Since nature only drops acorns once a year, the supply is limited making them a special find.
I first heard of In A Nutshell on Instagram. I just could not resist how adorable those necklaces are. As I browsed their Facebook page, I also saw that they make Mother/Daughter sets too. More sweetness! These sets are perfect for a special multi generational gift. Each acorn top is unique (like each person)- yet you can match each other with the color stone chosen. If you have a little girlie, In A Nutshell will make the Daughter necklace either on a cord or chain (depending on which you feel is more appropriate for the child). They also offer chain length (18′, 24″ or 30″) and color (antique bronze or silver plated) options. Just another way to personalize these sweet creations. And, you know me, I love how affordable these are too. Especially for being handmade!
I knew right away that I wanted a Mother Daughter set for a special gift. My Sister-in-Law was born here in Columbus and graduated from OSU, but lives in Colorado now. When we visited them at Christmas, I was able to give her and her daughter a little piece of “home” in the form of an In A Nutshell necklace set. My daughter and I also have a set, the two cousins were so excited to have matching necklaces (they wore them everyday of our visit!) In addition to the necklaces (and seasonal ornaments- so cute hanging on the tree!) In A Nutshell also creates Calendars and stationary with beautiful photography from the gardens & woodlands of Bexley. I love the calendar! It comes in an acrylic frame, with a bonus acorn gift topper attached. I reached out to Barb and Beth to see if they would like to partner with Mission to Save for a giveaway. I am so excited with the generous gift they have created for you all. Enter to WIN an In A Nutshell prize pack (worth approx $40). Prize Pack contains:

I lived in Columbus for 18 years (OSU then stayed). I currently live in the South. It’s nice to know another nut is getting recognized. Bummer, the acorns in my yard ate teeny tiny. Double bummer your contest requires Twitter account. (guess that’s on my to do list)
