Have you heard? Netflix announced it will raise its subscription prices. This price increace will immediately effect new subscribers, so here’s what you need to know about the Netflix changes.
Netflix Raises Prices
The Standard plan is the most popular membership for Netflix and so of course, it’s the one with the highest monthly price increase.
- Basic now $8.99, was $7.99 per month (Doesn’t provide high definition viewing and programs can only be watched on 1 screen at a time)
- Standard now $12.99, was $10.99 per month (Last price raise, up from $9.99 in 2017. Offers HD videos and allows for 2 simultaneous viewings.)
- Premium now $15.99, was $13.99 per month (Last price raise, up from $11.99 in 2017. Includes the ability to watch 4 screens at the same time.)
This marks the biggest Netflix price increase to date. The new pricing will be in effect immediately for new subscribers. Current subscribers will see the price increase take effect over the next 3 months or so.
So if you are frustrated about paying an extra $12+ a year for the service, maybe you can try an alternative streaming service.
Alternatives to Netflix
Hulu offers not only streaming of movies and old faves, but you can find Live TV options including sports- which makes it very popular with the cord cutting crowds. The basic streaming package does include commercials but the premium subscriptions get rid of them and even offer DVR capability. See all the Hulu options here.
Pure Flix
If you want a more “family friendly” option then check out Pure Flix. Stream exclusive originals, movies, TV shows, and more for a free month on your favorite devices like Roku and Apple TV. If you enjoy Pure Flix, continue subscribing for $10.99 (or save 24% with a yearly membership!). Cancel anytime. And as a member of Pure Flix.com, you will be helping children in need find lasting success in school and in life as they support Cru. Start Your Free Trial at PureFlix. Watch Faith & Family Movies.
Amazon Video (Included with Prime)
If you are an Amazon Prime member, one of the perks is access to streaming of thousands of TV shows and and movies in your home and mobile on your fave device. You can also rent, and subscribe to additional channels and movies too. If you are not a Prime member, you can subscribe to Amazon Video for $8.99 a month. But, that is almost the cost of Prime… so why not just join Prime at that point and get all the other perks too, like 2 day shipping (can’t “live without” that during the holidays, right?!)
Those are just a few options to consider instead of (or maybe to compliment) Netflix.
Ok, So as I am writing this I have become aware that we (meaning Hubs) need to write an in-depth post on cutting the cord. We (again, hubs has the knowledge on this one) did it a few years ago and have not looked back- the savings from cutting cable can be significant. So more on that to come…
And here it is! Hubs first post on the subject, Cut the Cord: Are You Ready to Get Rid of Cable?
