Dum Dums Wrapper Wreath
When the kiddos and I were making our Dum Dums Suncatchers, another DIY project inspiration hit me. As the kiddos unwrapped those lolli-pops, I just knew I had to do something with the wrappers. I have seen coffee filter wreaths before, so I thought why not make a Dum Dums Wrapper Wreath! (try saying that 5 times fast!)
Dum Dum Wrappers Wreath Supplies:
Dum Dums Wrappers: This is the most fun part! 😉 You will need, a lot!
Foam Wreath Form: I love the small 9 in forms I find at the Dollar Tree (cheap and a nice size). You could also make your own wreath form
Straight Pins: I would suggest straight pins with a small ball/pearl on the end so the wrapper doesn’t rip thru. (as you see below, mine did not have that and sometimes ripped thru)
Ribbon: I just used a bit of scrap ribbon.
How to Make a Dum Dums Wrapper Wreath
It is really quite easy to assemble this wreath. Basically you are going to pin each wrapper in the center onto the wreath form. If you alternate each pin left to right, a little off center from the middle of the form – they will fill in nicely. And you really don’t have to fill the backside of the form (unless you want it to be seen from both sides). I actually thought it laid better with no wrappers on the back (and you need half as many wrappers!)
One thing to decide is if you want to pin on the back side of the wrapper or on the colorful front. In the picture above, you can see the top is pinning on the front and the bottom is pinning on the white (back). I liked the more vibrant color by pinning through the front. But if you want a little more subtle look, pin through the back of the wrapper.
When you get near the end, leave a few inches at the top for a bow. I had just a few small pieces of scrap ribbon to make a nice little knot. I also attached a piece for the hanger (attached with a pin on the back)
So what do you think? I think this is a sweet, and easy little DIY craft! I had it up on Easter and everyone commented on how cute and clever it was. And of course the kids loved helping me “prepare” the supplies! 🙂 You could use this same idea with any kind of wrapper- pick a special someone’s fave and make it a gift. Let me know what you think in the comments below.
