Learn how to make your own homemade taco seasoning mix. Check out this frugal recipe to swap out store-bought seasoning. Spice up your next Taco Tuesday dinner.
I know it seems cliche, but Taco Tuesday is a must in our house. Ok, sometimes it’s Taco Thursday or Monday- but definitely a weekly dinner menu item! One night I ran out of taco seasoning mix, so I tried making my own. It has taken a few tries, but I think I finally have a good mix. And the “extra” spice can be added to your family’s heat tolerance.
Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix Recipe
2 T chili powder
2 t paprika
2 t cumin
1 t onion powder
1 t garlic powder (or garlic salt)
“extra” spice- cayenne pepper to taste
Use 2 T seasoning mix + 1/2 to 3/4 cup water per 1 lb of ground beef.
I usually triple (or quadruple!) the batch when I am making it. To store it, I use an empty chili powder container or you could use a repurposed glass jar.
