Have you ever been “voluntold” for something? You know…that is when someone (usually a loved one or close friend) volunteers you for something without your input. Well my lovely bride of 15 years did just that – she voluntold me that I would be writing “Fourth Friday Financial” (FFF). I confess – my initial reactions was….well let’s just say less than enthused. However – the more I thought about it the more the idea grew on me. So, once a month we will reflect on topics related to our finances. What can you expect? We will look at practical issues like spending less than you make, how to communicate effectively as a couple, and yes the “B” word (Budget of course). If there are other topics you would like to tackle just leave us a comment.
While my undergrad is in business and accounting, I would like to preface this all with – I am not a CPA or CFP. But what I can tell you is by applying biblical principals, some discipline, and open communication you WILL have financial peace (Yes, we are Dave Ramsey fans but more about that another month).
So for our first FFF, I thought it would be helpful to consider the core (heart) of many financial struggles. Whose money is it anyway? I can tell you being a total control freak and a classic Type A personality, I struggled for a very long time because I saw everything as mine and not HIS. Once I wrapped my little brain around the idea that, everything I have is the Lord’s and that I am just managing what He has blessed me with; my heart began to change and God opened the floodgates (Malachi 3:10). The bible says in Psalms 24:1 “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it…” So I ask you, “Who’s money is it anyway?”
FFF is written by Mary’s Dear Hubby Andy, because he was “voluntold”. 😉 We have been together for 2 decades and you will begin to see that our differences compliment each other well. Through this monthly series we hope you find practical information for taking control of your finances.
