Ok, so I’ve seen these ornament wreath projects on Pinterest. I click through to see the “how to” and see the dreaded hot glue gun. You see, I kind of have a love-hate relationship with them. It seems I always end up getting burned ( 😉 pun intended). So I ask myself, how can I make this without a glue gun? And here’s what I came up with – all you need is ornaments and a hanger!
How to Make a DIY Ornament Wreath– without using a hot glue gun!
The first step is to disconnect the end of the hanger so that you can thread the ornaments onto it. At first I was trying to clip it with wire cutters. But then Hubs came up with the brilliant idea to just unwind the wire at the top (right under the hook part). This way it can be closed up again when you are done.
Now you just start threading the ornaments onto the wire hanger. I used about 55 of the shatterproof ornaments from Big Lots. It’s really just this easy. You might want to watch for these to go on sale at Big Lots, or you can also find a wide selection of shatterproof ornaments here.
Then when your hanger is almost full, reconnect the wire hanger. The reason I say “almost” full is that you will want to have a little room on the wire to arrange the ornaments. If you fill it too full, the ornaments will be too tight and you won’t be able to move the balls around. Then when you have them just so, you can cover the top of the hanger with a nice bow. (I also found this nice pre-made bow at Big Lots.) I love how the hook on the hanger makes a perfect… hanger for the wreath.
So with 3 supplies and about 20 min- I came up with a festive DIY Ornament Wreath – no hot glue gun required! (And no burnt fingers either!) So what do you think? Worth a try?

This is great! And since you’re not using the glue gun, you have the option of using the wreath ornaments in other ways in the future!

Thanks Gayle. I’m all about color at Christmas. I don’t go with just one theme. All the colors! 🙂
