Summer is just 3 days away here! YAY! And as usual, I am already planning on what to “do” with my kiddos the next 2 months. One tradition has always been to participate in Summer Reading Programs. I love how these programs give kiddos incentive to keep in the books during the summer break from school.
As I was thinking about reading, I also thought about all the great movies that have been created- based on books. Recently our family watched Holes (based on the book by Louis Sachar). My son had read this one on school and so it was fun for him to “see it” (and fun for the adults to see all the “big name” actors in this film).
After watching that, I headed over to Netflix to see what other books on film I could find. Seeing the words on the screen makes reading come to life! And if you have a reluctant reader, this could be another incentive to read. I decided to pick a few films and encourage the kids to read the book the film is based on- then we will have a movie night to celebrate completing the book! Here are some of the titles on Netflix that your family might like to read/watch:
- The BFG
- Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events
- Bridge the Terabitha
- Ella Enchanted
- The Adventures of Tin TIn
- Hugo
- Harriet the Spy
- 13 Reasons Why
What are your fave books on film?
