Are you are considering a kitchen remodel- just moving a few things around or blowing the walls out? If so, I have a design concept I highly encourage you to consider- a kitchen island with breakfast bar. I am in love with our breakfast bar (actually ours is more of a peninsula).
Breakfast Bar – Hub of the Home
When were were redesigning our kitchen, I knew I wanted some kind of breakfast station. A location not only to fuel up the kiddos before school (and during lunch on days off). But I knew the placement could be key to this kitchen island becoming a real hub of the home. For us, the perfect location was located next to a step down that adjoins our living room spaces to the kitchen.
Since we often have large family gatherings (22+ extended family in town alone) I knew this could also be a great way to bridge the gap between the kitchen and the seating areas during these get togethers. Also, each year hubs hosts a holiday party for his co-workers at our house. We always joke that people end up standing in the kitchen- near the food of course. I am also envisioning this “breakfast bar” area to be the perfect buffet location to encourage people to move into the areas with more comfortable seating spaces.
Put the Fun in Functional Kitchen Seating Area
To be most functional, we designed our breakfast nook, bar area to have overhang on both sides. This way there is seating for 4. When it came time to look for breakfast bar chairs, I knew right where to go- At Home Stores! When we went shopping with my niece for college dorm decor, I had remembered seeing rows and rows of great kitchen seating options. There are so many style choices to choose from. Whether farm house chic, modern, classic or somewhere between- At Home Stores has the right chair for you! We ended up choosing 2 different styled, black adjustable barstools (one with a back and one backless). Both are a great vinyl fabric, perfect to wipe down from the kiddos sticky pancake fingers. And they are fully adjustable (for the varied heights in our home).
Just today hubs said to me, “I love our house”. It’s so wonderful that after 10 years of living here, we have fallen in love again. And it’s thanks to smart kitchen design elements like our breakfast bar area. Speaking of hubs, watch the video below to see him “testing” out the stools on our At Home visit.
This is a sponsored post on behalf of At Home Stores. They provided the bar stools mentioned for review. All opinions are my own; We really do love them!
