It’s time for the Third Thursday Repurpose post. Each month I bring you a great idea for repurposing items that would have been headed to the trash or recycling bin. There are so many items in our homes that we can reuse and repurpose (instead of sending to the land fill) As my Father-in-law says “if you use something twice, it costs half as much”>>>tweet this!
Last month in the Fourh Friday Financial post, Andy discussed the concept of Commission (instead of allowance) for our kids.
I love to share with you when a reader shares an awesome ideas with me. Loyal fan (and good friend) Marcie attended a moms meeting where hubs and I were discussing budgeting and saving. Commission was a part of the presentation as well.
Marcie’s son was at the perfect age to start Commissions. So she came up with this awesome idea for his “give”, “save” and “spend” jars.
What do you do with those old candle jars? This idea struck me while I was out shopping for jars to use for this project! I put water in it (jar) for a few days. The wax floats to the top, usually. If it is stubborn, I’ll use a butter knife to pull the wax away from the sides so the water can get under the layer of wax. (You can also try putting it in the freezer to pop out the wax)
I love the idea of you not spending any money on the jars that will teach your children how to manage their own money! Don’t have pretty candle jars like Marcie’s? Use pickle or jelly jars and let the kids decorate the outside. Canning jars work well too. Worried about using glass? Peanut butter jars would be a great alternative.
Thanks again Marcie!
Do you have an awesome repurposing or up-cycling idea? I would love to hear about it! Send me a picture and description to amissiontosave @hotmail .com and maybe your idea will be next month’s post (You see, I give cred where it’s due!) Love this idea? Be sure to PIN IT!
