It’s almost time for Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes collection week! The national collection dates are November 12-19th. Operation Christmas Child is a wonderful program run by Samaritans Purse. Your participation helps to share the love of Christmas with needy children all around the world! Each of my children fill a box for a child in their age range. As I have mentioned before, this is one of the reasons I coupon- so that I can give more! Many of the items that fill our boxes were Free or greatly discounted. All through the year my family collects items to fill our shoeboxes. When I am scanning clearance bins and seasonal closeouts- shoeboxes are always in the back of my mind.
Recently I have posted about free toothbrushes and free toothpaste, these would be perfect additions to Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. I will be making note in my upcoming posts when an item would be Shoebox worthy. Our boxes usually contain; toothpaste/brushes, socks, crayons, coloring books, small toys, candy, stickers, small stuffed animals, and hair bows.
Another thing we do at Halloween is to take out some of the hard candies my kids collect on Beggar’s Night, to use in the shoeboxes. I love how it makes them consider how much they have and how they can give to someone who doesn’t have the same opportunities.
