There’s nothing that says summer more than a trip to the state fair. And with these tips, you can learn how to save money at the Ohio Stare fair with discounts on tickets and more.
Ohio State Fair Discounts on Tickets
Let’s start at the beginning- Tickets. There is really no reason to pay full price on gate tickets to the Ohio State Fair. There is a way to get discounted fair tickets- or even free- every day of the fair. Here is where you can find a full list of Ohio State Fair Discount Admission promotions for the current yeat. But here are a few of my faves:
- $6 advance price tickets available thru TicketmasterTicketmaster, Kroger or AAA (regular Adult admission price is $10)
- Opening day, $3 admission until 3 p.m
- NBC4 Family Discount Day at the Ohio State Fair: Until 6 p.m., adults will be admitted for the kids’ admission price of $8, and kids 12 and under will be admitted free.
- Meijer Receipt day- get 2 free tickets per $100 receipt (receipts within a certain time frame)
- In the past, the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s “Ag is Cool” program admitted all students who just completed 4th grade for Free with a report card. I cannot find updated info for 2019. (please let me know if you do).
Ohio State Fair Coupons for Vendors and Food
You know I love a good printable coupon! Well did you know that the Ohio State Fair takes coupons too? Well, they take these special vendor coupons that you can print here. They include everything from food to merchandise. I always find at least one or two that help me save a little more during a trip to the Ohio State Fair.
Discounted Ohio State Fair Ride Wristband
Gone are the days of the rides at the fair being free, you will have to purchase either a ride ticket or wristband to ride any of the attractions at the Ohio State Fair. Since tickets are $1 each and most rides take 2-4 tickets, you will need to determine how many rides you are going to go on for the best option. Typically, my family just bypasses the rides (so many other things to do at the fair) or just does one trip down the giant slide (classic). Since we don’t ride multiple buying individual tickets (bring cash) is best. But if you know you will be riding more than 5 per person, snag a discounted all-day ride wristband BEFORE the start of the fair via Ticketmaster or Kroger for $20 (at the fair price is $25)
More Ways to Save at the Ohio State Fair
Watch for the Best Price on Food
Fair food is the best! But it can get pricey, so if you couldn’t find a Fair coupon for your fae consider this. There are tons of food vendors at the fair, and many serve the same items. Take for example corn dogs (a certain kiddos fave). We saw prices from $6 for a jumbo to just $2. Same goes for gyros, french fries and even drinks. Take a moment to browse the menu prices before you buy. Unless you know a certain vendor is the very best- they all will be similar in taste and might be worth shopping around for best price.
Watch for Free Samples and Promotional Items
Whenever there’s an “info” table there’s bound to be a freebie! We love seeing all the fair “loot” that we collect. From drawstring and grocery bags to pens and “chip clips”. This year we even found some new faves (like the keychain with eyeglass cleaner cloth from Ohio Parks and Watercraft and the LED keychain light from Ohio Department of Insurance). I’m not going to lie, I took every pen and/or pencil offered for school supplies. And those bags and sunglasses are great Opperation Christmas Child Shoebox donation items.
But it’s not just free promotional items to watch for, but food too! In the Briker Marketplace building, we found several booths offering free samples of dips, spreads and salsa. Even along the food way, we found a free Cookie Sample at Easton Cookies.
Watch for Ticket Giveaways
If you are on social media, you may also find giveaways for tickets to attend the fair. Check out the local TV stations and the hashtag #ohiostatefair to see if area influencers are giving away tickets. Often bloggers and media outlets like TV and newspaper are given tickets by the fair to giveaway in return for promoting. My giveaway for 2019 is over, but check back a few days before the fair starts each year to enter.
I hope these tips help your family have a more frugal visit to the Ohio State Fair. Tag me on social if you go- I’d love to see the fund you have! (I’m @amissiontosave on IG, you can see highlights of my Ohio State Fair visit on the “Cbus” highlight tab)
