It is the start of a new month and like many of you, I just cleaned out my coupon binder. But don’t throw away those expired coupons. Did you know that Military serving overseas can use expired coupons? There are a couple of organizations that help to get unused and expired coupons into their hands and helps the families save valuable dollars and stretch their budget.
The Overseas Coupon Program (OCP) serves military families by forwarding “manufacturer’s coupons” to overseas military bases. These bundles of coupons are placed on tables at the PX and Commissary, or handed out for use by military members and families on base. Visit the OCP web site and click on the Adoption link. Then follow the instructions on how to “adopt” a base. Please make sure you know the procedure for donating: Only Manufactures coupons (no store or printed coupons), cut all coupons, sort into food and non food, 2 months max expiration date. Shipping is to an APO address so it is like shipping to anywhere in the states.
CouponsToTroops is another program that is all about sending expired coupons overseas, they recommend sending directly to a military family. If you would like help in locating a family overseas, they can help out with that as well. Just send them an email at admin@ couponstotroops.com to request an address and they’ll put you in touch with a military family who’s interested in receiving coupons.
Maybe you have a moms group, playgroup, Bible study or neighborhood association that could contribute to these great programs. Let me know if you get involved! It’s just a small way to give back to families who are serving our country each day.
